Lyndhurst is a Gothic mansion with a 67 acre park along the Hudson River with crafts festivals from the spring through autumn. Sunnyside was once the home of author Washington Irving, who wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle." The mansion was constructed in 1835 and is presently a museum owned by Historic Hudson Valley. Sunnyside has been open to the public since 1947 and became a historic landmark in 1962.

Other must visit attractions in Tarrytown are the Tarrytown Music Hall, one of the oldest surviving theatres in Westchester County. (Built in 1885) The Music Hall offers concerts by folk, jazz and rock musicians, and plays historic films. The Castle on the Hudson is an excellent replica of an early Norman style castle built in 1897 on one of the highest points in Westchester County. There are luxury accommodations and the 5 star Equus Restaurant. Kykuit, (in the northern section of Tarrytown now known as Sleepy Hollow) was the Rockefeller family's home for several generations. Tours of Kykuit's spectacular gardens and grounds are by advance reservation only.
