The Village of Bronxville is named for the colonial settler Jonas Bronck. Bronxville has approximately 6,500 residents based upon the most recent US Census in 2000. The village is 15 miles north of the heart of New York City. Bronxville has seventy acres of parkland, including athletic fields and a small section of the Bronx River Parkway Reservation, which opened in 1925 and is the oldest linear park in the United States. The Reservation has ponds, footbridges, native trees and shrubs. Favorite activities of locals using the reservation are walking, running and biking.

During Sundays in the spring and from September to the end of October each year, seven miles of the Bronx River Parkway in the vicinity of Bronxville (In White Plains, Hartsdale, Scarsdale and Eastchester) are closed to vehicular traffic for bike riders from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Bronxville has its own hospital, Lawrence Hospital, and is very close to Sarah Lawrence College. Famous residents of the village are President John F, Kennedy, the writer Don DeLillo and pro football Commissioner Roger Goodell.
