Valhalla, New York

The Village of Valhalla has roughly 5,300 residents as of the 2000 census. Valhalla is a part of the Town of Mount Pleasant, along with several other villages such as Pleasantville, Briarcliff Manor, Sleepy Hollow, and hamlets including Eastview, Hawthorne and Pocantico Hills. Valhalla is famous for the Kensico Dam, which was built from 1913 and 1917 as a major source of water for New York City. The Kensico Dam is 1,825 long. One million cubic feet of masonry was used to construct the Kensico Dam, as much as the ancient Egyptians used to create some of the pyramids.

Valhalla has two colleges, Westchester Community College and the New York Medical College, and a major hospital, Westchester Medical Center. There are several cemeteries in Valhalla, and buried there are the bandleader Tommy Dorsey, entertainer Danny Kaye, and legendary New York Yankee first baseman Lou Gehrig.
