Stony Point, New York

Stony Point is located in Rockland County. The town is in the shape of a triangle. Stony Point's name comes from its prominent angle into the Hudson River. Based on the most recent Census, there were a little over 14,000 residents of Stony Point. The town is 31.5 square miles. On the east side of town is the Hudson River, and on the west it borders Orange County. During the American Revolution, General George Washington utilized the King's Ferry in Stony Point to travel between New England and the southern colonies. Stony Point is known for the Stony Point Battlefield, where on July 16, 1744, "Mad" Anthony Wayne led 1,350 Continental Army troops in a surprise attack on the British garrison in Stony Point.

Stony Point was the last town created in the County of Rockland. It was founded in 1865. The famous contemporary artist Jasper Johns lived in Stony Point in the 1980's and 1990's.
