Haverstraw, New York

The town of Haverstraw is located in Rockland County. Haverstraw is 27.5 square miles. At the last US Census in 2000, the population of Haverstraw was 33,811. The name Haverstraw comes from the Dutch word "Haverstroo", which means "oat straw." The word refers to the grasslands along the Hudson River. The Haverstraw Post Office sits on land occupied by General George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
